One of the first shelters in the U.S. for women who were victims of domestic abuse opened in Brooklyn in the late 1970s. Oelbaum began photographing at the shelter soon after it opened and images from this body of work are in several public collections and were published in the prestigious1979 anthology "A Family of Women," edited by Julia Scully. More information and images are available upon request.
